Location-wise, it is difficult to beat the pretty Cumbrian village of Stainton, which occupies the green rolling hills on the Eastern edge of the Lake District, not far from Ullswater. It is a few miles away from Penrith, giving you easy access to the local shops that you'll need to stock up your holiday cottage with fresh, local produce. It is also easy to reach, being close to (but far away enough from!) the main Penrith to Keswick road. Keswick too is well worth a visit, with lots of great shops that sell gifts and outdoor wear, together with the fantastic Theatre On The Lake and the shores of Derwentwater and its boat hire opportunities.

For walkers, the fells along the shores of Ullswater offer fantastic, picturesque views and the nearby Blencathra and Skiddaw mountain ranges give access to longer, more challenging walks for the seasoned hiker. All of Lakeland is within reach of our Stainton holiday cottages, wether you want to cruise on Lake Windermere, sample Grasmere Gingerbread or visit Beatrix Potter's cottage. Or simply get out and about in this wonderful landscape. Away from the lakes, Stainton offers easy access to the green, leafy Eden Valley, with its lovely sandstone cottages, pretty churches and craft shops. The location is hard to better, given these two gems of the English countryside on the doorstep.
